1. Do It All Over Again

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

You pick me up and put me down and take my hand
You make me then you break me till I understand
This circle of change will never end, we just do it all over again

You give me what I’m due and then you take it back
If I make a little more you only raise my tax
If I have any left, there’s a bill to pay, and so we do it all over again

When I concentrate on what I see
It seems that everyone is better off than me
But at least I ain’t dead
I guess I’ll concentrate on that instead

There’s a house that’s selling love the other side of town
And I can hear the rumour that’s been going round
I go in there to see a dear old friend, and we do it all over again

Well it seems to me that society
Tries to be as fair as it can be
But that’s not how it floats
Not everybody’s in the same boat.

They say that he giveth and he taketh away
We maybe get it back on redemption day
But I could use a little now I got nothing to spend I wanna do it all over again

When I concentrate on what I see
It seems that everyone is better off than me
But at least I ain’t dead
Guess I’ll concentrate on that instead

The big print said I was doing O K
Then the small print came along and took it all away
Give and take and make and break it never ends, we just do it all over again

The circle of change will never end we just
Do it all over
Oh we do it all over
Yes we do it all over again.

2. Separation – 2

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Did you see my Marjory, Did you see my Marjory
Did you see my Marjory, She knows how to take good care of me
My Marjory takes good care of me

And do you know my Eleanor, Do you know my Eleanor
Do you know my Eleanor, She’s always there to give me more
My Eleanor, she gives me more

And have you seen my Angie babe, Have you seen my Angie babe
Have you seen my Angie babe, She’ll cook and she’ll scrub ‘til the break of day
My Angie babe bakin’ ‘til the break of day

Flames are getting higher and higher and I just fell from the pan into the fire
If I don’t figure out which is which, might as well go out and dig a ditch
Let me tell you ‘bout the fix I’m in as soon as one ends another begins
I’m about to blow my fuse I got the need for separation blues

If you see Miss Barbara, If you see Miss Barbara
If you see Miss Barbara, Please be real nice to her
My Barbara, be real nice to her

Have you seen my Jessica, Have you seen my Jessica
Have you seen my Jessica, She seems to think I’m cheating on her
My Jessica thinks I’m cheating on her

Flames are getting higher and higher and I just fell from the pan into the fire
If I don’t figure out which is which, might as well go out and dig a ditch
Let me tell you ‘bout the fix I’m in as soon as one ends another begins
I’m about to blow my fuse I got the need for separation blues

Keeping these women apart keeps me in my dancing shoes
All I can want is to spend my time with whichever one I choose
Keeping these women so that I can choose keeps me in my dancing shoes
You know it gives me the need for separation
I need a little separation
I got the need for separation blues
I got the need for separation blues

3. History

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

When the evening light
Shines down on me
That’s when I crawl on back, to my old used to be

Wake up in the morning, make up my mind
It’s time to leave, the old ways behind
But then my history, throws his shadow on me

It’s not that I haven’t done what I can
I’ve signed my name, agreed to the plan
But then my history, throws his shadow over me

How do you find, a new way out
When the room has only one door
I come in from the rain for a little respite
But I always end up coming back for more

Give me some hope, give me a dime
Throw me a rope, throw me a line
To stop my history, throwing his shadow on me

How do you find, a new way out
When the room has only one door
I come in from the rain for a little respite
But I always end up coming back for more

So give me some hope, give me a dime
Throw me a rope, throw me a line
To stop my history, throwing his shadow on me

When the evening light
Shines down on me
That’s when I crawl on back, to my old used to be
My old used to be, my old used to be

4. Have Your Fun

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

I Don’t mind if you come home late
Or what time you reach my garden gate
I don’t mind what time you come home
Just so long as you come home alone

You can have your fun, don’t let your fun have you
You can have your fun but don’t let your fun have you

I don’t want to clip your wings
Stop you doing almost anything
You can dance with any man you see
But remember the last dance, that’s for me

You can have your fun, don’t let your fun have you
You can have your fun, but don’t let your fun have you

You can make yourself look pretty and fine
You can go on out and have a mighty fine time
But the time will come when you’re thinking ‘bout love
And I’m the one that you’ll be thinking of

You can have your fun, don’t let your fun have you
You can have your fun, but don’t let your fun have you

You can make yourself look pretty and fine
You can go on out and have a mighty fine time
But the time will come when you’re thinking ‘bout love
And I’m the one that you’ll be thinking of

You can have your fun, don’t let your fun have you
You can have your fun, but don’t let your fun have you

You can have your fun, you can have your fun
Have your fun, go on and have your fun but I say
Don’t, don’t, don’t you let your fun have you
You can have your fun, but don’t let your fun have you

5. Run To The River

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Did I, did I, did I see your face
Out last night, did I see your face
If that was you, it sure was some disgrace
Out last night, did I see your face

Tell me, tell me, tell me what you’ve done
Won’t you tell me, tell me what you’ve done
If that was you, you either own up or you run
It all depends, depends on what you’ve done.

CH:  Run to the river, to the river and pray
Run to the river, to the river and pray
Pray to the Lord, to wash your sins away
When you run, run to the river and pray

Tell me, tell me, tell me what you’ve done
Won’t you tell me, tell me what you’ve done
If that was you, you either own up or you run
It all depends, depends on what you’ve done.

CH:  Run to the river, to the river and pray
Run to the river, to the river and pray
Pray to the Lord, to wash your sins away
When you run, run to the river and pray

CH:  Run to the river, to the river and pray
Run to the river, to the river and pray
Pray to the Lord, to wash your sins away
When you run, run to the river and pray

CH:  Run to the river, to the river and pray
Run to the river, to the river and pray
Pray to the Lord, to wash your sins away
When you run, run to the river and pray

Pray to the Lord to wash your sins away
When you run, run to the river and pray

6. Winin’ Boy Blues

Jelly Roll Morton Arr.  Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

I’m the winin’ boy, don’t deny my name
I’m the winin’ boy, don’t deny my name  – my name
I’m the winin’ boy, don’t deny my name
I can pick it up and take it like Sweet Stavin Chain
Oh winin’ boy, don’t deny my name

Mama Mama, take a look at sis
Mama Mama, take a look at sis – look at sis
Mama Mama, take a look at sis
She’s out there on the levy doing the double twist
Oh winin’ boy, don’t deny my name

She’s my baby sis, take a look at her now
Yes sister sister, won’t you look at her now – at her now
Sister sister, take a look at her now
She wants to be a bad girl but she don’t know how
Oh winin’ boy, don’t deny my name

Instrumental break

Sister sister, dirty little sow
Sister sister, dirty little sow – little sow
Sister sister, dirty little sow
She wants to be a banker but she don’t know how
Oh winin’ boy, don’t deny my name

I’m the winin’ boy, don’t deny my name
I’m the winin’ boy, don’t deny my name – not my name
I’m the winin’ boy, don’t deny my name
The way I love the women it’s a crying shame
Oh winin’ boy, don’t deny my name

I’m the winin’ boy, don’t deny my name

7. The Good Lord Didn’t Tell Me

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Stand at the grave, look down at where you lay
Since you been gone, I cry most night and day
Why you had to go, God only knows
Don’t think I ever will

Guess He has His reasons, I suppose he always does
Someone has to go, could be any one of us
It’s a part of the plan, that much I understand
But why me

If this, if this is a trial, and we all go home some day
Take me now Lord, I don’t want to stay
I pray my woman’s alright, since he took her to the light
Left me in the dark

Br.      Faith is so hard to explain
Faith so hard to retain
Why does a love that’s pure, need so much pain

If there’s a joy we’re all heading for, in our home above
How come so much heartache, is a part of all that love
From my side of the fence, it makes no kind of sense
I pray one day it will

I pray one day it will

8. House Of The Rising Sun

Traditional Arr.  Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Tell my baby sister, not to do what I have done
Shun that house in New Orleans, they call the Rising Sun

There is a house in New Orleans, they call the Rising Sun
And it’s been the ruin of many a poor boy, and God I know I’m one
God I know I’m one

My mother was a tailor, sowed my new blue jeans
My father was a gambling man, down in New Orleans
Down in New Orleans

Now the only thing a gambler needs, is a suitcase and a trunk
And the only time that he is satisfied, is when he’s all drunk
When he’s all drunk

Now mothers, tell your children, not to do what I have done
Spend your life in sin and misery, in the House of the Rising Sun
In The House of the Rising Sun

I got one foot on the platform, I got one foot on the train
I’m going back to New Orleans, to wear that ball and chain
Wear that ball and chain

Instrumental break

If I’d listened to what my mother, I’d be home today
But being young and fooling, Rising Sun took me away
Rising Sun took me away

So mothers, tell your children, not to do what I have done
Spend your life in sin and misery, in house of the Rising Sun
In the House of the Rising Sun

There is a house in New Orleans, they call the Rising Sun
And it’s been the ruin of many a poor boy, God I know I’m one
God I know I’m one

So tell my baby sister, not to do what I have done
Shun that house in New Orleans, they call the Rising Sun

9. The Wretch

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Tell me what I mean to you, what’s happening in your mind
Why you treat me like you do, what keeps you sweet and kind
I know I’ve not always been, as kind as I could be
Tell me what I mean to you, I’ll tell you what you mean to me

Life can deal mean old blows, when the work won’t come your way
Jobs may come and quickly go, none of them seem to stay
I know you are always there, when it’s bad as bad can be
Tell me what I mean to you, I’ll tell you what you mean to me

You’re like the solid stone that homes are built upon
You’re the rock that’s always there when everything goes wrong
You’re that little speck of light when it’s dark as dark can be
You are the saviour of the wretch that is me

Sometimes I may go to town when I don’t have much change
What I got I’ll spend on booze ‘till there’s nothing left to save
I know that I’m mean sometimes, but I don’t mean to be
Tell me what I mean to you, I’ll tell you what you mean to me

You’re like the solid stone that homes are built upon
You’re the rock that’s always there when everything goes wrong
You’re that little speck of light when it’s dark as dark can be
You are the saviour of the wretch that is me

Tell me what I mean to you, what’s going on in your mind
Why you treat me like you do, what keeps you sweet and kind
I know I’ve not always been, as kind as I could be
Tell me what I mean to you, I’ll tell you what you mean to me

Tell me what I mean to you, I’ll tell you what you mean to me

10. Let The Train Whistle Blow

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

I’m heading back home again
Not been there since I don’t know when
There’s one thing on my mind
When I get there what will I find

CH:   Let the train whistle blow, tell them that I’m coming home
Let the train whistle blow, tell them that I’m coming home

Well I followed you from town to town
Just couldn’t turn your head around
You do what you gotta do
I’ll stay home and wait for you

CH:   Let the train whistle blow, tell them that I’m coming home
Let the train whistle blow, tell them that I’m coming home

I was looking for something new
Every town felt like I was passing through
All I wanted was to settle down
I didn’t see my way forward till I turned around

CH:  Let the train whistle blow, tell them that I’m coming home
Let the train whistle blow, tell them that I’m coming home

I had nothing when I left this town
Nothing to make me turn around
I set out with nothing in my chest
I believe I still got most of it left

CH:  Let the train whistle blow, tell them that I’m coming home
Let the train whistle blow, tell them that I’m coming home

I was looking for something new
Every town felt like I was passing through
All I wanted was to settle down
I didn’t see my way forward till I turned around

CH:  Let the train whistle blow, tell them that I’m coming home
Let the train whistle blow, tell them that I’m coming home

Coming home, oh coming home, tell everybody there
Tell them that I’m coming home; I’m on my way

11. Ain’t No Living With The Blues

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

I don’t understand, what’s going on
It’s not what I planned, but plans can go wrong
Now my best friend, is inclined to refuse
Cos there ain’t no living with the blues

It’s a mystery to me, the way things turn around
One minute you’re up, next you’re down
Now my good lady has found her walking shoes
Says there ain’t no living with the blues

Once they were knocking, asking could they stay
Now they can’t wait to get away
I’d leave as well if I was free to choose
Cos there ain’t no living with the blues

Instrumental Break

Once they were knocking asking could they stay
Next minute they can’t wait to get away
I’d go as well if I was free to choose
Cos there ain’t no living with the blues

Not with the blues
No there ain’t no living with the blues

12. Nothin’ Is What You Get

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

You have to put yourself in the picture, if you want to be seen
You gotta make your mark on the map, to show where you have been
You gotta write your own history, make sure they don’t forget
‘Cos if you don’t ask for nothing, nothing is what you get

There’s a woman the other side of town, you know she owns my heart
I don’t mean to push too hard but it’s tearing me apart
I said why have you ignored me so from the moment that we met
She said if you don’t ask for nothing, nothing is what you get

Oh I believe I learned my lesson, wish I’d learned it before
If you want to get into the room you have to knock on the door
Now you hear me knocking, so hard I won’t forget
That if you don’t ask for nothing, nothing is what you get

Instrumental Break

You’ve got to put your toe in the water, if you want to learn to swim
And if you want to win the prize, you have to put your ticket in
If you want to win the race, get ready then get set
‘Cos if you don’t ask for nothing, well nothing is what you get.

Oh I believe I learned my lesson, wish I’d learned it before
If you want to get into the room you have to knock on the door
Now you hear me knocking, so hard I won’t forget
That if you don’t ask for nothing, nothing is what you get

You have to put yourself in the picture, if you want to be seen
You gotta make your mark on the map, to show where you have been
You gotta write your own history, make sure they don’t forget
‘Cos if you don’t ask for nothing, nothing is what you get

If you don’t ask for nothing, nothing is what you get
I said if you don’t ask for nothing, nothing is what you get

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

It’s Christmas time let me tell you ‘bout the Christmases I’ve had
It’s Christmas time let me tell you ‘bout the Christmases I’ve had
Some of them were lonesome, some of them were oh so sad

It’s Christmas time, you’re not here, and I feel so all alone
It’s Christmas time, and you’re not here, I feel so all alone
At Christmas time, you know you should be back home.

Christmas, it’s time for the family
Christmas, it’s time for the family
Chistmas time,   is all about you and me

Repeat all three

2. Beggin’ Santa Claus

B.K. Turner         Arr.John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Santa Claus, what are you gonna bring
Santa Claus, what are you gonna bring
If you ain’t gonna bring my baby, don’t bring me a doggone thing

You know I love her Santa Claus, why don’t you bring her home
Yes I love her Santa Claus, why don’t you bring her home
If you bring her back to me, I will never do her wrong

Oh Lord it’s Christmas time, and I want to see my baby once more
It’s Christmas time, and I want to see my baby once more
I ask me baby to come home for Christmas she said go and speak to old Santa Claus

Please Santa Claus, you know it’s almost Christmas time
Please please Santa Claus, you know it’s almost Christmas time
I’m looking for you Christmas morning, before I lose my mind

I’m gonna buy me a Shepherd dog, keep him at my door
I’m gonna buy me a Shepherd dog, keep him at my door
And he’s gonna follow my baby, everywhere she goes

3. Let Me Go Home It’s Christmas

S Henry       Arr.John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Let me go home whisky, let me walk out that door
Let me go home whisky, let me walk out that door
It’s Christmas morning and I need to see my baby once more

Let me go home whisky, let me walk out of this room
Let me go home whisky, let me walk out of this room
If I leave right now it won’t be a moment too soon

Let me go home whisky, before I’m needing that bail
Let me go home whisky, before I’m needing that bail
Don’t want to spent another Christmas morning in jail

Let me go home whisky, let me walk out of that door
Let me go home whisky, let me walk out of that door
It’s Christmas morn I need to go and see my baby once more

Let me go home whisky, let me walk out of that door
Let me go home whisky, let me walk out of that door
It’s Christmas morn I need to go and see my baby once more

Let me go home whisky, let me go before I fall
Let me go home whisky, let me go before I fall
She said if you don’t get home for Christmas  -
Don’t you bother coming home at all

4. Christmas On My Own

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

The road seems long and lonesome, the sky is dark and cold
Freedom’s not such a pretty word, when you’re free and on your own
I think of you at your fireside,   keeping yourself warm
Don’t wanna spend, another year, at Christmas on my own

You can be on your own in the Springtime
And the Summer when it’s warm and clear
But when you’re alone at Christmas
It’s the worst time of the year

This road keeps getting longer, and more lonesome as time goes by
I know I should settle down, and I believe I’m gonna try
I’m packing up my suitcase, making my way home
Ain’t gonna spend even one more year, at Christmas on my own

Instrumental Break

You can be on your own in the Springtime
And the Summer when it’s warm and clear
But when you’re alone at Christmas
It’s the worst time of the year

I sometimes wonder, what goes on in my mind
Why did I ever go out on my own, leaving you behind
I remember times together, now I’m here alone
Don’t wanna spent, another year, at Christmas on my own
Don’t wanna spend even one more year, at Christmas on my own

5. Winter Love

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

April sings a song of spring, she knows what the summer will bring
She sees it every year
And when autumn sang of a chill, my heart was warming still
Burning with Winter Cheer

That was when our love began, with snowball fights and nights that ran
Well into the early hours, a winter love, for ever ours

And I promised you then, as each season ends
A new one will unfold
In all its glory, revealing our love story
May it be for ever told

Telling how our love began, with snowball fights and nights that ran
On into the wee small hours, a winter love, forever ours

That was when our love began, with snowball fights and nights that ran
Way beyond the midnight hour, A winter love, forever ours

When April sang her song of spring, knowing that summer would bring
A warmth from the sun above
And then when autumn brought her chill, my heart was warming still
Burning with our winter love

Burning with winter love

1. I Don’t Want You Anymore

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

I don’t want you anymore, hanging round my door
I don’t want you anymore, hanging round my door
I thought you would treat me kind
You had something else on your mind
I don’t want you anymore, hanging round my door

I don’t want to see your face coming round my place
I don’t want to see your face coming round my place
Did I ever rue the day you flashed those big brown eyes my way
I don’t want to see your face coming round my place

I don’t want you anymore, picking at my life
I don’t want you anymore, picking at my life
You’re the meanest woman I ever seen, you saw what I had and you picked me clean
I don’t want you anymore, picking at my life

XX You looked as sweet at sweet could be
XX But you were only mean to me
XX The promises inside your eyes
XX Turns out they were only lies
XX I had all I needed, then you offered so much more
XXNow I don’t want you hanging round my door

I don’t want you anymore within a million miles of me
I don’t know what makes you think that you’d be good for me
You took my good you made it bad, you took my happy and you made it sad
Now I don’t want you anymore within a million miles of me

Instrumental Break

XX You looked as sweet at sweet could be
XX But you were only mean to me
XX The promises inside your eyes
XX Turns out they were only lies
XX I had all I needed, then you offered so much more
XX I don’t want you anymore round my door

I don’t want you anymore lying in my bed
I don’t want you anymore messing with my head
You promised me your loving action, I ain’t got that satisfaction
I don’t want you anymore lying in my bed oh no not lying in my bed

2. Don’t You Worry None ‘Bout Me

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

It’s very plain to see, you’ve made up your mind
About leaving me, and leaving me behind, but
Don’t, don’t you worry, don’t you worry none ‘bout me

I know that you were never, never going to stay
Just as soon as you, had everything your way
Don’t, don’t you worry, don’t you worry none ‘bout me

You know that I’ll be here, I’ll be here just the same
When everybody, everybody knows your name
Don’t, don’t you worry,    don’t you worry none ‘bout me                         ]

XX Don’t you worry about leaving me alone
XX You know that I’m, perfectly fine, sitting here on my own

And now that every evening, when the sun goes down
And you’re out there having fun, all over town
Don’t, don’t you worry, don’t you worry none ‘bout me

Instrumental break

XX Don’t you worry about leaving me alone
XX You know that I’m, perfectly fine, sitting here on my own

And now that everything, is going right for you
And all your crazy dreams, you know they’ve all come true
Don’t you worry, don’t you worry none ‘bout me

Instrumental break

XX Don’t you worry about leaving me alone
XX You know that I’m, perfectly fine, sitting here on my own

You know that I’ll be here, I’ll be here just the same
When everybody, everybody knows your name
Don’t don’t don’t you worry, don’t you worry none ‘bout me

I said don’t, don’t  you worry, don’t you worry none ‘bout me

3. The Story

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Need to tell you a story  -     Something I once saw
I thought I was set in my ways, but I was changed for ever more
I was changed for ever more

Man lived in a fine house   –    On the sunny side of town
He didn’t see what he had   –   till the sun went down
Only when the sun went down

Now this man he had a woman     –     On her he could rely
Every night, when he came home, she would keep him satisfied
Oh she knew how to keep him satisfied

Bridge
But he didn’t notice, the sadness growing in her life
He could never see the world through another man’s eyes

Now gambling was his passion  -   and he liked a drink or two
She wanted him to change his ways  –  but what’s a man to do?
He must do, what he has to do

Now his friends they started to tell him   -  You got to treat that woman right
And if you want to hold that job you got to quit this way of life
You must change this way of life

Bridge
He would not believe he was wrong, wouldn’t listen to their lies
He could never see the world, through another man’s eyes

Ah you know in time she left him   –   he quit his job in a rage
House went back to the banker and life became his cage
Oh his life, became his cage

So won’t you spare a dollar or two, when you’re walking in the street
For that story telling busking man – you know it might be me.
Oh you know, it might be me

Yes that story telling busking man
You know it might be me

4. Rum Ol’ Do

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

There’s many things, I wish I’d known
When I was young, before I’d grown
It’s a rum ol’d do,            Rum ol’ do - It’s a rum ol’ do what diddie wa diddie do

Everybody knows if you try too hard,
You move ahead end up at the start
It’s a rum ol’ do  -   Rum ol’ do  -   Rum ol’ do what diddie wa diddie can do

Come on round my place to night
Show you something out of sight
It’s a rum ol’ do  -   Rum ol’ do  -   Rum ol’ do what my diddie wa diddie can do

Instrumental Break

I did nothing wrong, just a friendly nudge
Now I’m talking to the judge
It’s a rum ol’ do  -   Rum ol’ do  -   Rum ol’ do what diddie wa diddie do

You didn’t mean her any harm
Now you’re working on the farm
It’s a rum ol’ do  -   Rum ol’ do  -   Rum ol’ do what diddie wa diddie do

Late at night, light were low
Another man’s wife!  How was I to know?
It’s a rum ol’ do  -   Rum ol’ do  -   Rum ol’ do what diddie wa diddie do

Instrumental Break

You want a piece of my advice
Think about it once, think about it twice
It’s a rum ol’ do -  rum ol’ do – rum ol’ do what your diddie wa make you do

I paid no head when I joined the game
Thought about, done it just the same
It’s a rum ol’ do -  rum ol’ do -  rum ol’ do what my diddie wa made me do

It’s a rum ol’ do what diddie wa diddie do

5. So Long

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

I’ve waited so long, for you to come home
I’ve waited so long, for you to come home
I’ve waited so long, for you to come home
Now I’ve got kind of used,  to being here on my own

There was a time, I needed you here
There was a time, I needed you right here
There was a time, I needed you here
I believe that time is gone, I don’t need you anywhere near

I hungered for your love, I believed I had no choice
I hungered for your love, I believed I had no choice
I hungered for your love, I believed I had no choice
Now I’ve got used, to the sound of my own voice

Bridge
So long, so long, a man can only wait so long
If you keep him hanging on, One day his love will be gone

You’d go out at night, so late you’d be back through though the door
In the wee small hours, you’d come back through the door
Then you went away, it wasn’t like before
I waited so long for you to walk through the door
I waited so long; I don’t feel that way any more

MUSIC BREAK PER VERSE

I believed you’d be home, one of these fine days
I believed you’d be back home, one of these fine days
In my chair by the window, I would sit and gaze
I believed you’d be back home, one of these fine days
You kept me waiting for so long – now I’m set in my ways

Bridge
So long, so long, a man can only wait so long
There’s a limit, there’s a line, and yours has been drawn

I’ve waited so long, for you to return
I’ve waited so long, for you to return
I’ve waited so long, for you to return
It’s too late now, your lesson is learned.
It’s too late now, all your bridges are burned
Your bridges are burned

It’s time you were gone    you kept me waiting so long

6. Lead Hearted Blues

Blind Blake     Arr. John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Originally performed by Bertha Henderson

Baby baby , can’t rest no place I go
Baby baby , can’t rest no place I go
These blues have got me wondering, must be reaping what I sow

I get’s up every morning, my heart it feels like lead
Get up every morning, my heart it feels like lead
When I go to bed at mid night, sometimes I wish I was dead

Break

You told me baby, before you left my door
You told me mama, before you left my door
You said, someday I’m gonna be sorry, I ever let you go

Get’s up every morning, my heart it feels like lead
Get up every morning, my heart it feels like lead
When I go to bed at mid night, sometimes I wish I was dead

Break

Baby baby , can’t rest no place I go
Baby baby , can’t rest no place I go
These blues have got me wondering, must be reaping what I sow

These blues have got me wondering, must be reaping what I sow

7. Stone Cold Sober

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

I’m stone cold sober when I get to my job
Stone cold sober when I get off
But on my way home, I’ll have a bottle or two
I’d rather be out of my mind, than stone cold sober with you

You’re one in a million, one of a kind
But you’re driving me out of my mind
The Way you teat me, what else can I do?
I’d rather be drunk as a skunk, than stone cold sober with you

Instrumental

I’d rather be in a penitentiary
Than stone cold sober in your company
But a bottle of whisky, that’ll see me through
I’d rather be sloppy drunk, than stone cold sober with you

Instrumental

I’m stone cold sober when I meet up with friends
but then before, before the evening ends
I’ll be knocking them back – two by two
I’d rather be smashed to pieces, than stone cold sober with you

Instrumental

I’d rather be Sloppy drunk, than stone cold sober with you
I’d rather be Sloppy drunk, than stone cold sober with you
Sober with you

8. Poverty Blues

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Did you hear my, did you hear my, did you hear my, hear my news
Did you hear my, did you hear me news
Bad luck came now I’m paying all my dues

Do you see me, do you see me, do you see me, see me come
Do you see me, do you see me come
If you see me please don’t turn and run

Now I’m living, now I’m living, now I’m living under sheets and sacks
Now I’m living under plastic sheets and sacks
You don’t talk to me, you just talk behind me back

Say you don’t know me, deny me if you must
At times like these, you learn who you can trust
I did everything a man’s supposed to do
You can only pray this never happens to you

If you were a, if you were a, if you were a, friend of mine
If you were a, if you were a friend of mine
You wouldn’t go and leave me here behind

Break

You remember, you remember, you remember how you’d see me trying
You remember how you’d see me trying
See me now, you just see me crying

Say you don’t know me, deny me if you must
At times like these, you learn who you can trust
It’s not the life my wife and kids all had in mind
Say what you like my friend, at least they’re by my side

It seems to me now, I’ll only get back, Get back to my friends of old
Seems I’ll only get back to my friends of old
When I got money in the bank and a brand new set of clothes.

9. Right Back At The Start

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Walked into the room, not knowing you’d be there
No-one noticed I was trying not to stare
So I looked around for someone I could talk to
But I could not take my eyes off of you
I’d almost forgotten, how you broke my heart
Now I’m standing right back at the start

It was hard to see you holding someone else’s hand
And to know your smiling face was for another man
I never knew it ran so deep, it seems that I still care
But you hardly noticed, I was even there
I guess that’s what hurts the most it’s tearing me apart
Now I’m standing right back at the start

Bridge
I thought I’d seen enough cold water, flow beneath the bridge
From where I’m standing on the ledge
They say that time’s a healer it will lead you from the ridge
Now seems I’m standing too close to the edge

So many smiling faces, all pleased to see you
So I put a smile upon my face hoped no-one could see through
Seemed everyone was with someone, someone of their own
I knew that I, would be going home alone
Love cuts a little deeper, pierces like a dart
Now I’m standing right back at the start

Instrumental Break

Bridge

10. Worse Off Than You

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Lead me to the bottom of the hole you’re in
I’ll take you some place, you’ve never  been
Then I’ll tell you something, you won’t believe it’s true
There’s always someone worse off than you

You played every game, you lost every bet
You think this is just about as bad as it gets
But as long as there is one small thing that you can do
There’s always someone worse off than you

Bridge
I could take you to the top of the hill
And show you all there is below
But as long as you’re still talking
As long as you’re still walking
You still got a long way to go

Once you get started you better not stop
It’s a long way back from the bottom to the top
Exactly where you are depends upon your point of view
‘Cos there’s always someone worse off than you

Instrumental break

Once you get started you better not stop
It’s a long way back from the bottom to the top
Exactly where you are depends upon your point of view
‘Cos there’s always someone worse off than you

Bridge
I could take you to the top of the hill
And show you all there is below
But as long as you’re still talking
As long as you’re still walking
You still got a long way to go

Meet me in the middle where the deals are made
Half way in the sun, and half in the shade
Don’t sit there moaning when there’s something you can do
‘Cos there’s always someone worse off than you

Coda
As long as you’re still talking, as long as you’re still walking
There’s always someone worse off than you

11. Dream The Blues

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

I dreamed a dream, it all comes back to you
I dreamed a dream, it all comes back to you
My mind’s so restless, don’t know what to
Don’t know what to do

You treated me good, all I did was do you wrong
You were sweet and kind, I cheated and lied and done you wrong
Now I’m the one, the one who feels so all alone
Feel so all alone

You know I found me a sweet love, I left you at home by yourself
She seemed so sweet and kind, and I was only thinking of myself
But the minute you were gone, she changed into something else
She was something else

Instrumental Break

She treated me bad, denied me all a man could want
She treated me bad, denied me everything a natural man could want
Treated me so bad, like some kind of femme méchant
Some kind of femme méchant

Instrumental Break

I go into town, there’s no-one there that I know
I go back to my home in the country, there’s nothing left there to show
Feel so all alone, no matter where I go
No matter where I go

You trusted me, even when I was accused
I was having such a good time, you were denied you were refused
Now when I go to bed at mid-night, all I do is dream the blues
All I do is dream of the blues
I just dream of the blues

12. This Rag Of Mine

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

I’m hoping you’ll love me, when I’ve taken you out tonight
You’ve been holding out a little too long and I’m feeling just a little too tight
You don’t want to hurry, you say everything in good time
But that’s a little too long, for this rag of mine

When we go out on the town it feels like you’re taking me on one long ride
There’s not much on the main course, and absolutely nothing on the side
You want to move forward, a little at a time
But that’s a little too slow, for this rag of mine

Bridge
Oh I need a little more action. Give me a place to aim
Just a little satisfaction, to keep me from going completely insane
I don’t mean to complain, you know I’ve been towing the line
Just a little too long, for this rag of mine

Instrumental verse

Bridge
Oh I need a little more action. Give me a place to aim
Just a little satisfaction, to keep me from going completely insane

I don’t want to start pleading, Please don’t make me beg
I’ve got one thing on my mind you’re thinking of something else instead
I’m so thirsty, I wanna taste of your cherry wine
I can’t wait any longer, with this rag of mine

This rag of mine,  This rag of Mine
This rag of… Mine…

Can’t wait  any longer, with this rag of mine

1. Solitary Vacation With The Blues

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Everything was going fine
I had plenty of women and I loved my wine
But when the women get too fast and the wine is just booze
You’re close to a vacation with the blues

I did not recognise when she got up to me
This was the woman, who would take good care of me
She was the one I did not want to loose
Now I’m taking a vacation with the blues

Chorus:
I’m heading out on my vacation
And it’s one I did not choose
My bags are packed
Tthere’s no turning back
From my solitary vacation with the blues

You need some Bad with the good to Educate
It’s a lesson I learned well, but I learned it too late
Now I’m looking out for my walking shoes
‘Cos I’m taking a vacation with the blues

Instrumental Break  Verse and Chorus

You need some Bad with the good to really Educate
It’s a lesson I learned well, but I learned it too late
Now I’m looking out for my walking shoes
‘Cos I’m taking a vacation with the blues

Chorus:
I’m heading out on my vacation
And it’s one I did not choose
My bags are packed
Tthere’s no turning back
From my solitary vacation with the blues

Now I look back it’s clear as day
I see so clearly where I lost my way
The destination on my ticket, was the very first clue
It said you’re taking a vacation with the blues

Coda

The destination on my ticket, was the very first clue
It said you’re taking a vacation with the blues
Taking a vacation with the blues
Taking a vacation with the blues

2. Bus Depot

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Bus Depot, it was cold and damp
Even my shadow from that old gas lamp
Seems lonesome, with deep dark despair
I’d give anything to be   Anywhere else but there

One day she said, her love was true
Next day she said our loving days were through
She left me, with little more than my fare
And I’d give anything to be Anywhere else but there

I Look around, what do I see?
Lonesome man, he looks as sad as me
And he tells me, You know that life ain’t fair
I’d give anything to be Anywhere else but there

Chorus
You can Show me a road or a way or a track
I take one step forward and two steps back
There’s Nothing left in my life to save
Feels like I Already got one foot in the grave

There’s people crying, they moan and they wine
Sends a shiver, down my spine
As I wonder, is there anyone who cares
I’d give anything to be Anywhere else but there

Instrumental break

Chorus
You can show me a road or a way or a track
I take one step forward and two steps back
There’s nothing left in my life to save
Feels like I Already have one foot in the grave

Bus Depot, it was cold and damp
Even my shadow from that old gas lamp
Seems lonesome, deep dark despair
I’d give anything to be Anywhere else but there

I’d give anything to be Anywhere else but there
I’d give anything to be Anywhere else but there

3. Hard Times – 83

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

13-bar blues             Intro : verse

Man said show me your money, put it in my company
For every dollar you put in, I’ll give you forty three
When the company Crashed
He took all his cash
there was nothing left for me

They said, put a little money away, Save it for a rainy day
Then when you can work no more, that’s when it will pay
The depression grew near
The fund disappeared
I hung my head and prayed

The benefit man said I’ve done all I can, there’s no more I can do
I’ve given leaflets and telephone numbers, the rest is up to you
Better look out for yourself
No-one else
Will step up and pull you through

Instrumental Break

Man said take a good look, at my insurance policy
When you die this will take good care of your wife and family
Now I’m Eighty Four
It has no value no more
He says I should have died at Eighty Three

Instrumental Break

Life keeps getting harder, you know it’s killing me
Every little payment, is like a third degree
Like the man said
I’d be better off dead
Wish I had died at 83

Coda
Like the man said
I’d be better off dead
Wish I’d died at eighty three

4. Lady Luck

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Lady Luck, it’s my time you see.

Lady Luck, Let those blues be gone

You were with, folks who never give a damn

INSTRUMENTAL VERSE

I know you will turn things round, one of theses fine days

Bridge

I pray the Lord, will deliver you unto my home

Lady Luck, there’s a sign on my head
Read it soon, or you may find me dead

Lady luck, you my find me dead

5. I’ll Take Care Of Mine

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

You may see me having a good time
You may say I tasted too much wine
But you take care of yours, and I’ll take care of mine

You hear the rumours they may be lies
You don’t know the truth you can only surmise
So you take care of yours, and I’ll take care of mine

You think I’m treating my woman unkind
You can only hear one side at a time
So you take care of yours, leave me to take care of mine

You don’t know what’s going on
So don’t put your face where your face don’t belong
A wise man once wrote it down in a song – he said it’s
Nobody’s business – but my own

You criticise what goes on in my home
But take a good look at what’s going on in your own
So you take care of yours, leave me to take care of mine

Instrumental Break

You criticise what goes on in my home
But take a good look at what’s going on in your own
So you take care of yours, leave me to take care of mine

You don’t know what’s going on
So don’t put your face where your face don’t belong
A wise man once wrote it down in a song – he said it’s
Nobody’s business – but my own

If you don’t like what someone’s doing well you hit them hard
Why don’t you take a good look in your own back yard
But you take care of yours, and I’ll take care of mine

You take care of yours, and I’ll take care of mine

6. That’s Alright

Arthur Crudup     Arr. John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

That’s all right, mama
That’s all right for you
That’s all right mama, just anyway you do
Well, that’s all right, that’s all right.
That’s all right now mama, anyway you do

Mama she done told me,
Papa done told me too
‘Son, that gal your foolin’ with,
She ain’t no good for you’
But, that’s all right, that’s all right.
That’s all right now mama, anyway you do

I’m leaving town, baby
I’m leaving town for sure
Well, then you won’t be bothered with
Me hanging ’round your door
Well, that’s all right, that’s all right.
That’s all right now mama, anyway you do

Well, that’s all right, mama
That’s all right for you
That’s all right mama, just anyway you do
Well, that’s all right, that’s all right
That’s all right now mama, anyway you do

Well, that’s all right, that’s all right
That’s all right now mama, anyway you do

7. Blues In My Life

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Blues in my life it is a major deal
It just won’t let me be
Every time I try to sleep I feel
The blues come over me

And now it seems I’ve lost my appetite
There’s no lemons in my tree
Show me a hot town on a Friday night
The blues come over me

I saw you coming but I didn’t see you leave
We see just what we want to see
The signs they were all there, but I chose not to believe
I guess that says more about me

Every time I try to do it right
You know it all goes wrong again
And if the sun is shining bright
The blues come down like pouring rain

I know why you came, but why did you go
Oh! It’s such a mystery
There is just one thing, I guess I’ll never know
How could you leave a man like me?

Instrumental break

I saw you coming but I didn’t see you leave
We see just what we want to see
The signs they were all there, but I chose not to believe
I guess that says more about me

And now it seems I’ve lost my appetite
There’s no lemons in my tree
Show me a hot town on a Friday night
The blues come over me
The blues come over me

8. Flood Water

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Flood water, rising on my home
Flood water, rising on my home
Getting higher and higher, since you been gone

Lucky star, won’t be shining tonight
My lucky star, he don’t shine so bright
Since you been gone, he’s staying out of sight

Storm drain, set to overflow
Storm drain, set to overflow
Since you’re gone, got no place to go

Music Break

Flood water, leaves me high alone
Flood water, would all be gone
If only you would come back to my home

Flotsam, brushing on my door
Flotsam, brushing on my door
Don’t think I can take this stuff no more

Music Break

Flood water, washing over me
Flood water, washing over me
Downing in my own misery

Flood water, rising on my home
Flood water, rising on my home
Getting higher and higher, since you been gone

9. When You Need Them Most

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Every time I get to the end of the day
I remember when you went away
My life changed from top gear to reverse
Every bird was singing way too loud
Everywhere I looked there was a big dark cloud
And my life started goin’ from bad to worse

Friends I used to know go the other way
They said they’d really like to see me on another day
They don’t have the time for me right now
But it’s now that I need them most of all
But they don’t answer when I call
They always seem to know it’s me somehow.

Bridge.
When I was at the top of my game
They always wanted me around
Now when I need them to lift me up
All they do is let me down

One thing in life now is clear to me
Friends are not always what they seem to be
It’s when you need them most they let you down

Instrumental break

Friends I used to know go the other way
They said they’d really like to see me on another day
They don’t have the time for me right now
But it’s now that I need them most of all
But they don’t answer when I call
They always seem to know it’s me somehow.

Bridge.
When I was at the top of my game

10. Bad Luck Rain

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

You’ve been round my house too long
You should know by now, you don’t belong
I’ve been fighting you, the best that I can
It’s time you took off to some foreign land

If you take one more piece of my cherry pie
I’ll hunt you down till the day that I die
And if you should empty my water jug first
I’ll hunt you down till I die of thirst

Bridge.
They call you dark cloud
Bringer of sorrow and pain
You’re the shadow of everything that ever went wrong
You’re the bringer, of bad luck rain

Bad luck rain,  Bad luck,  bad luck rain, bad luck, bad luck rain

Bad luck rain, you keep pouring on me
Let me take my turn why won’t you leave me be
If you were a living man
I’d cut you down right where you stand  Oh
Bad luck,  bad luck rain

Instrumental Break

Bridge.
They call you dark cloud
Bringer of sorrow and pain
You’re the shadow of everything that ever went wrong

11. Best I Can For You

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

You say that I don’t treat you right
But I’m working for you every day and every night
Doing the best I can for you

You accuse me of lying
You say I’m not even trying
But I’m doing the best I can for you

Why do you want so much more from me
You already got me down on my knees
Doing the best I can for you

Chorus:
There’s one thing I don’t understand
How you expect so much from just one man
I work so hard my hands are falling off
But that’s never good enough  for  you

Instrumental Break

Chorus:
There’s one thing I don’t understand
How you expect so much from just one man
I work so hard my hands are falling off
But that’s never good enough  for  you

You say I should be doing so much more
But I’m already lying flat our on the floor
Yes I’m doing the best I can for you

You accuse me of lying, you say I’m not even trying
But I’m doing the best I can for you
Doing the best I can for you
Doing the best I can for you

12. Not Until It’s Gone

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Ever since I left my home
Ever since I went out on my own
I don’t have a good gal of my own

I know I should have stayed behind
Now I know I should have stayed behind
Since you’re gone you’re all that’s on my mind

There’s one thing I wish I’d known
They told be but told them they were wrong
You don’t know what you got until it’s gone

CH   Not until it’s gone
Not until it’s gone
You don’t know what you got until it’s gone

Instrumental break

Thought I’d find a better place
Thought I’d go and find a better place
No matter where I look I only see your face

Now I know where I went wrong
Believe me now I know where I went wrong
You don’t know what you got until it’s gone

Not until; it’s gone
You don’t know what you got until it’s gone

1. Better Days

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

It’s never easy to change
When you’re set in your ways
You head the wrong way up a one way street
Thinking ‘bout better days

You think your way through restless nights
Sleep your way through wasted days
Still you don’t see what you did wrong
Back in your better days

On the way up, the people around, were the people you met, on your way down
Oh!  But that was yesterday
And they only treat you the way you treated them
Back in your better days

Instrumental Break

I know it’s all a mystery to you
And that’s how it will stay
Till you take a good look at the way you were
Back in your better days

On the way up, the people around, were the people you met, on your way down
Oh  But that was yesterday
And they only treat you the way you treated them
Back in your better days

Now you may find your friends again
When they hear you say
You’re truly sorry for all you did
Back in your better days

Back in your better days
Back in your better days
Back in your better days
Back in your better days

2. Regular Guy

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

If you see me passing by
Don’t you hang your head and cry
Since you’ve been gone, I’ve tried to move on
Today may be the day I think it’s just begun

So don’t you shed a tear for me
I’m not needing your sympathy
Maybe some kind of helping hand
Or a sign to let me know you understand

So if there’s something you can’t find
Well I’ve sold all the things you left behind
It’s not that I couldn’t stand for them to stay
It’s just that they kind of, got in my way

I hear you’ve been doing well
Yea – me too – I’m sure you can tell
Just because I’m not up to any new tricks yet
That doesn’t mean I’m finding you hard to forget

Bridge
You heard I went away for a while
Had to learn to crack my face into a smile
Don’t you worry that I may have failed
Well you know I think I got it nailed

Don’t you feel bad you did nothing wrong
I’m perfectly fine on my own
Don’t waste your time wondering why
You know I am just a regular guy

Instrumental break

You’re not so clever, you’re not so smart
Just because you broke a man’s heart
That doesn’t mean you’re special you see
You just happened to know, how to break me

Bridge
I heard you went away for a while
Something about developing your style
If you’re figuring how to destroy any male
Looks to me like you got it nailed

Don’t feel bad you did nothing wrong
I’m perfectly fine, on my own
Don’t waste your time, wondering why
You know I am just a regular guy

Well don’t you worry ‘bout me, I’m doing just fine
You don’t need to look out for me, you know that I’m
I’m just a regular guy
Regular kind of guy

3. That’s When I Get The Blues

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

It’s easy to suppose
When the honey flows
That’s the way that it will stay
And it’s easy to forget
Just how tough it gets
When nothing goes your way

There are times when the river runs so slow
And it’s easy just to drift with the flow
But when the water runs so deep, there’s only darkness down below
You know that that’s when I get the blues

There are times when every star is shining bright
And your sweet loving is my sweet delight
But when the dark clouds come rollin’ in and block out all the light
You know that that’s when I get the blues

I need to be clear
Where you’re going to
For my peace of mind
For when I’m in the dark
And you’re leaving me confused
You know that that’s when I get the blues

Instrumental break

I’m not a complicated man
And I take life as easy as I can
When the going gets so tough, I don’t understand
You know that that’s when I get the blues

I need to be clear
Where you’re going to
For my peace of mind
When I’m in the dark
And you’re leaving me confused
You know that that’s when I get the blues

You know that that’s when I get the blues
You know that that, is when I get the blues

4. Lost Lover Blues

Fulton Allen Arr. John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

Well I went down to the freight depot
Freight train came rollin’ by
And I ain’t got no lovin’ baby now
No I sure ain’t got no lovin’ baby now

I went off to some  distant land
It wasn’t there I got that telegram
Sayin’ man won’t you please come home
Now man won’t you please come home

So I went home, I looked on the bed
Best old friend I had was dead
And I ain’t got no lovin’ baby now
No I ain’t got no lovin’ baby now

Well I’m sorry, sorry, sorry to my heart
Best of friends someday must part
And I ain’t got no lovin’ baby now
No I ain’t got no lovin’ baby now

Instrumental Break

Now as sure as the birds wings in the sky above
There’s no point livin’ if it’s not with the one you love
And I ain’t got no lovin’ baby now
No I ain’t got no lover now

If I’d known you didn’t love me and didn’t want me to
I would’ve taken morphine and died
‘Cos I ain’t got no lovin’ baby now
No I ain’t got no lovin’ baby now

Instrumental Break

Well I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry to my heart
But that best old friend someday must part
And I ain’t got no lovin’ baby now
No I ain’t got no lovin’ baby now

Oh I ain’t got no lovin’ baby now
No I ain’t got no lovin’ baby now

5. Doob Doo Be Doo Wah

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

There’s no point planning tomorrow
When I can’t even get through today
There’s no escaping my sorrow no
Wish I could find another way

Chorus

Doob doo be doo wah,  Doob doo be doo wee
There’s no word in the world, express the way I feel
Doob doo be doo wee

Feel like I’m slipping under
Now I pray for Glory be
Let no man put asunder no
Like sunder done to me

Chorus

There’s no reason for rescue
From this hole I’m in
For no matter what you do
I’ll fall back in again

Chorus

Instrumental break

There’s no point planning for tomorrow
When I can’t even get through today
There’s no escaping my sorrow no
Wish I could find another way

Chorus

Now if I’m ever remembered
When I’m dead and history
It’ll be because no-one ever heard
Of a man as pitiful as me

Doob doo be doo wah,  Doob doo be doo wee
There’s no word in the world, express the way I feel
Doob doo be doo wee
Doob doo be doo wee
Doob doo be doo wee
There’s no word in the world, express my misery
Doob doo be doo wee

6. Second Chance

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

If you get a second chance to live your life again
Take care that what you ask won’t loose you everything
It’s all to easy to think that what went wrong
Can just as easily somehow be undone

Remember that was just a part of who you are today
Change the past and all you have may quickly fade away
There’s no rhyme nor reason to help us understand
Every shattered dream may be the start of something grand

Is it an illusion or do we really see
We have no choice at all it’s all as it should be

Instrumental break

It’s one long journey to the end right from the start
And it all must be embraced with an open heart
Just as sure as every stream will lead you to the sea
So it is that every path will lead you here to me

I believe the picture always will show you and me.

7. Wrong Side Of Town

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

I’m living on the wrong side of town
Been here since my deal went down
Forgive me please
If I cause you dis-ease
By living on the wrong side of town

I’m here on the wrong side of the track
Still hoping to make my way back
I don’t mind a visit
Have my fun and then ditch it
Don’t want to stay here on the wrong side of the track

Chorus
You slide with ease
When it’s by small degrees
And you don’t notice at all
After a while
When you’ve lost all your style
You’ve taken such a fall

Now you see me on the wrong side of the road
And it’s down to the baggage I stowed
Maybe it’s true, and I can still be like you
Looking down on the wrong side of the road

Instrumental break

Chorus
You slide with ease
When it’s by small degrees
And you don’t notice at all
That after a while
You’ve lost all your style
You’ve taken such a fall

I’ve fallen to the bottom of the pile
Been here for more than a while
As time goes by, you loose the will to try
Guess I’ll stay here by and by

Coda:
On the wrong side of the road
Wrong side of the track
Wrong side of town
It’s the dark side of the road
I’m on the wrong side, the wrong side of town

8. Separation Blues / Separation Blues

Patrick Sky / John Cee Stannard  (Grassblade Music / Harry Fox  :  CastIron Music / Stannard)

I’m in the kitchen, my baby’s in the hall
I’m in the kitchen, my baby’s in the hall
I’m in the kitchen, she’s in the hall
She ain’t talking to me at all no
She gives me, the separation blues

Do you see that fly, crawling up the wall
Do you see that fly, crawling up the wall
Do you see that fly crawling up the wall
She ain’t talking to the spider at all no
She gives him, the separation blues

Chorus
Let me tell you where I am
I just jumped from the frying pan
Staying out all night well that was bad enough
Finding that number on my cuff
Oh I ain’t saying no-one seen us
But that was enough to put a wall between us

I’m in the kitchen, my baby’s in the hall – I’m in the kitchen, my baby’s in the hall
I’m in the kitchen, she’s in the hall – She ain’t talking to me at all no
She gives me, the separation blues

Instrumental break

Chorus
Let me tell you where I am – I just jumped from the frying pan
Staying out all night well that was bad enough
Finding that number on my cuff
Oh I ain’t saying no-one seen us
But that was enough to put a wall between us

Now I’m in the kitchen, my baby’s in the hall
I’m in the kitchen, my baby’s in the hall
I’m in the kitchen, she’s in the hall
She ain’t talking to me at all no
She gives me, the separation
She gives me, the separation
She gives me, the separation blues

9. You Knew It Anyway

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

I’ll tell you what it does to me
When you let me down
And you act like it don’t matter at all
I don’t want you to be sorry
Just want you to understand
That it hurts to be lifted up – then allowed to fall
Yes it hurts to be lifted up – then allowed to fall

I realise there will be times
You can not come around
That doesn’t mean I’m happy not to hear from you
But when I tell you that I miss you
I see your defences rise
And it hurts when you give a dream, that won’t come true
Yes it hurts when you give me a dream, and you won’t let it come true

Chorus:
And when I’ve said, all I have to say
It’s then I realise that you knew it all anyway

Like a figure in the night
You’re a shadow in my life
You come and you go just as quickly as you came
Just like all the other parts
You weave into your life
It hurts to be just a strand in your complicated game
Yes it hurts to be just one strand, in your complicated game

And when I’ve said all I have to say
It’s then I realise that you knew it all anyway

Instrumental break

Over & over
Over we play this game
Over & over again
Over and over
And over again
It hurts each and every time we do it all again
Yes it hurts me more and more each time, we do it all over again

But you knew that anyway – You knew that any way
You knew that any way

10. Devil’s Own Store

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

I’m on a slide, I’ve not been on before
And it’s leading me to the wrong side of my front door

I’m heading down, soon I’ll be flat out on the floor
And it’s all because I went to the Devil’s own store

You know that I should have known better, I was doing fine
Then Old Man Whiskey, became a friend of mine

And when Old Man Whiskey gets too close, he’s always wanting more
Don’t you shake his hand if you fall into the Devil’s own store

If he gets into your blood, you better fight him if you can
He may not be so good at heart, but he can bring down a real good man

He got gambling, he got whiskey, he’s got women by the score
There’s nothing you can’t find in the Devil’s own store

Instrumental break

If he gets into your blood, you better fight him if you can
He may not be so good at heart, but he can bring down a real good man

He got gambling, he got whiskey, he’s got women by the score
There’s nothing you can’t find in the Devil’s store

Pay attention when I say this is not the place to go
You’ll be looking up but he will bring you down so low

If he gets into your blood, you must fight him if you can
He may not be so good at heart, but he can bring down a real good man

If you meet him at the crossroads, turn back home and bolt the door
Don’t go looking, round the Devil’s own store

Said if you meet him at the crossroads, turn back home and bolt the door
Don’t go looking, round the Devil’s own store
I said don’t go looking,    round the Devil’s own store

11. Hid Behind The Door

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

She said she saw it coming, she didn’t start running
‘Til it was too late
By the time he got home to her there was nothing she could do for he was
Home and he was in a rage
She’d seen it all before so she just hid behind the door and prayed

He said it was the booze and
e had nothing else to loose
Hell it wasn’t his fault at all
By the time he got home to her it was like he hardly knew her
She was never there to greet him in the hall
He didn’t mean to hurt her
She just pushed a bit too hard that’s all

There was a time when a walk around the block
Would help to ease his troubled mind
Now he looks for answers in the bottom of a bottle
But they’re just out of reach every time

It started out so good that she never understood
How a man could change so much
He thought that he had done all he could to keep the love
Now she didn’t even like to touch
She was scared of him
And he was scared of what he had become

Instrumental break

XXX There was a time when a walk around the block
Would help to ease his troubled mind
Now he looks for answers in the bottom of a bottle
But they’re just out of reach every time

She said she saw it coming, she didn’t start running

12. That’s My Way

Gary Fletcher  (Hornall Brothers)

Got me a house to live in, a fine old place to stay
But I just keep on moving, that’s my way

I had a good woman, till she started out to stray
Because I just kept on moving, that’s my way

Good times.  Hard times.  You know I’ve had my share
But I live for the journey, it ain’t the getting there

I’ve got me this guitar and I love to play
As I keep on moving,  That’s my way

Instrumental Break

Good times.  Hard times.  You know I’ve had my share
But I live for the journey, you know it ain’t the getting there

And I’ve got me this old guitar and you know how I love to play
As I keep on moving, that’s my way

I just keep on moving
That’s my way

13. Ballad Of A tricky Night Visitor – Shaking My Rattle Breaking My Roll

John Cee Stannard  (CastIron Music / Stannard)

I was almost sleeping when she knocked upon my door
I thought I was dreaming but I really wasn’t sure
So I gave myself a little prick and then gave one to her
She hit my with my walking stick or cane if you prefer
She said some guy was stalking her she had to get away
She looked around my room, asked if she could stay

I weighed up all the options and I counted all the odds
I concluded nothing could go wrong as I double checked the locks
She said “When I said could I stay I didn’t mean right here
You see he’s following behind and he’s very close I fear”
Although the door was her way in it was not the way to go
She took me by my shaking hand and dragged me through the window

Proving all that glistens really isn’t gold she was shaking my rattle, breaking my roll

The stalker was a walker and I saw him across the way
He looked like the kind of man who would perambulate all day
There was something in his eyes made me wish I wasn’t there
There was something in his holster that I didn’t want to share
She led me through an alley I was surprised she would have known
Not the sort of place to be if you’re alone

Her smile was captivating I believed her every word
Even though it was becoming increasingly absurd
To save her from this dragon had become my destiny
I was beginning to wonder who on earth would save me
I wished I could turn back the time be sleeping in my bed
My anticipated dream became a nightmare instead

Proving all that glistens isn’t gold she was shaking my rattle, breaking my roll

Instrumental break

The scary walker stalker had us cornered in the end
Then the scary walker stalker became a talker and a friend
My damsel in distress was a felon in a dress
And the stalker was the saviour of this fellow in a mess
He gave me a warning, it’s simple and it’s this
If a woman seems too good to be true, you know she probably is

Proving all that glistens isn’t gold she was shaking my rattle, she was breaking my roll

Shaking my rattle and breaking my roll she was shaking my rattle and breaking my roll
She was shaking my rattle and breaking my roll shaking my rattle breaking my roll
She was shaking my rattle she was breaking my roll she was shaking my rattle she was breaking my roll
